Sustainable Duddon is a community led organisation, and rely completely on volunteers to run and fund our charity. We are passionate about protecting and enhancing the natural landscape of the Duddon catchment and estuary and promoting the exceptional businesses and people that call it home.
Our mission is to work with the community to protect, conserve and enhance the Duddon’s environment. Through shared knowledge, collective action and inclusive participation, we aim to build resilience to climate change, promote biodiversity, encourage recycling and waste reduction, and ensure resources are used responsibly – creating a more sustainable present and future.
Through shared vision, shared values and collective action, we seek to:

From the community orchard and garden to active travel surveys, biodiversity programmes and renewable energy feasibility studies.

Managing invasive species, improving river health, planting trees, restoring habitats and promoting carbon reduction.

Working with schools, hosting training courses, running community workshops and providing access to local environmental data.

As part of the Duddon Catchment Partnership, we work with organisations such as South Cumbria Rivers Trust, the Duddon River Association (DRA) and South Lakes Red Squirrel Group to protect and restore the wider catchment.
Sustainable Duddon is led by a team of trustees and supported by volunteers across the Duddon. Our trustees bring expertise from science, tourism, conservation, business and community leadership. Together, with dozens of active volunteers, we deliver projects that make a difference locally and connect the Duddon to wider sustainability efforts across Cumbria.
We believe lasting change comes from working together. Whether through volunteering, supporting a project, or simply learning more about sustainability in your daily life, there are many ways to get involved. Together, we can protect the Duddon catchment and estuary and ensure a thriving future for generations to come.
